Wisconsin Dairy Plants Still Producing More Chesse Compared to a Year Ago

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Dairy plants in the Badger State are still producing more cheese products than they did a year ago.The latest dairy product summary from the USDA notes that the state churned out 279.2 million pounds of cheese in November, which was up 2.4 percent from a year earlier, but 3.1 percent less than this past October (which had more days on the calendar). This marks the 39th consecutive month that monthly production exceeded year-to-year levels, with the exception of December 2016.
Nationally, about 1.05 billion pounds of cheese was produced in the United States. That was 2.8 percent more than the same month last year, but 2.0 percent less than the previous month's production totals. Dry Whey output in Wisconsin was recorded at 27.4 million pounds, which was up 10.6 percent from last year, and 2.8 percent more compared to last month.
