(WDLB) -Marshfield officials are making plans now for the addition of the new Wenzel Family Plaza downtown. The city's Economic Development Board got an update on the project yesterday. The E-D-B will be teaming up with the city's Convention and Visitors' Bureau and Parks and Recreation Department to contribute 150-thousand dollars annually for the programming and maintenance of the new park, with 50-thousand coming from each. A new coordinator will eventually be hired to oversee the plaza's programming and entertainment. A special committee will be formed to hire that individual. Main Street Marshfield Board President and downtown property owner Erin Howard is involved in the process.
The park's opening will coincide with Farm Technology Days the second week of July. Boson Construction is building the plaza on the former Marshfield News-Herald site in the 200 block just west of main street, and it's being built with a combination of city funds and private contributions, including a sizable contribution from the Wenzel family, which gets naming rights.
