Neillsville School Board Approves District's Academic and Career Plan

Friday, December 22nd, 2017 -- 11:08 AM

-The Neillsville School Board heard about the district’s Academic and Career Plan.

This is a new requirement by the state. The purpose is to get students, at a much younger age, thinking about their future career. This plan would start as far back as elementary students. The plan is checked by the Department of Public Instruction. Essentially, over 600 students need this plan and the district is under a time crunch. It has been a daunting task for the district, but they’ve completed it and continue to make tweaks as they go on. One board member stated that the district already does about 90% of what’s in the plan, but now they need to focus it into the Academic and Career Plan.

This will also work with Junior Achievement and Youth Apprenticeships. The district has reached out to businesses to see if they’d be interested in being a part of the YA program. When a student signs up for the YA program, the district receives $350 from the state and then an additional $1,000 for completion. The board approved moving ahead with the plan.
