Owen-Withee School Board Reviews WASB Convention Attendees

Friday, December 15th, 2017 -- 8:00 AM

-The Owen-Withee School Board reviewed attendees of the WASB Convention at their meeting on Monday.

Board members Julie Wendler, Rick Eloranta, Angela Greschner, Kim Amacher, Dean Schmelzer and District Administrator Bob Houts have been registered for the WASB convention in Milwaukee in January. At the meeting, Charlie Milliren also expressed interest in attending. Mr. Houts also presented the Board with the results for the OWEA recertification votes held in November. Both units, teachers and support staff, voted to continue their bargaining units for the 2018-19 school year. The board also heard an update on the possibility of moving the 6th grade to the Middle School for the 2018-19 school year.

Middle/High School Dean of Students Julie Van Ark presented to the board the comments generated at two meetings, staff and parent, showing the thoughts and concerns about moving the 6th grade classes from the elementary school to the middle school. Most comments were positive and concerns expressed can be addressed. The Board gave approval to continue the process, with the next step being creating a schedule that utilizes the current staff the district has.
