Former Neillsville Resident Sentenced for Accident that Resulted in the Death of his Passenger

Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 -- 11:43 AM

-A former Neillsville resident charged with operating a vehicle after suspension causing a death in Taylor County has been sentenced.

According to the Taylor County Sheriff’s Department, they were notified of an accident on State Highway 73, just north of County Highway V in the Town of McKinley back in September of 2016. An initial investigation indicated that a 2001 BMW SUV was traveling south on 73 when it entered the west ditch, hit an embankment and went airborne. There were two occupants of the vehicle, John Cihler, formerly of Neillsville, and 27-year-old Sarah Scollay of Neillsville. Cihler was wearing a seatbelt, but Scollay was not and she was ejected from the vehicle. Scollay was transported to a Wausau hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Cihler was found guilty, due to a no contest plea, to the charge against him. He was sentenced to 2 years’ probation with a condition of 10 months jail time. He also had his license revoked for 6 months and he owes the courts $1,800.
