Neillsville City Council Approves Tax Write Offs

Wednesday, December 13th, 2017 -- 8:58 AM

-The Neillsville City Council approved some delinquent tax write offs at their meeting on Tuesday.

During an illegal tax committee meeting held before the regular common council meeting, the council approved writing off $101.30 in delinquent taxes from E/Z Auto Repair owned by Edward Bergey. Mr. Bergey passed away earlier this year. The city’s portion of that money would be $37.59. They had taken legal action to try and get the money in small claims court. However, they are out of money in that line of the budget, so they decide to write off that amount rather than pursue it.

They also approved writing off $31.11 in delinquent taxes from Allen Buchanan who use to own Buchanan Funeral Home. The funeral home went out of business. The city’s portion of that money was $11.45. Due to the small amount of delinquent taxes, and having no money to continue legal action, it was decided to write that amount off as well. Both write offs were than approved during the regular common council meeting.
