Higher Rates for Marshfield Taxi Service

(WDLB) -Those who use Marshfield's taxi service will pay more for those rides in 2018.With one member absent, the Marshfield Common Council voted unanimously last night in favor of rate increases for the city's shared-ride taxi service, which will take affect at the start of the new year. City Finance Director Keith Strey told the Council a tremendous growth in use has prompted the city to raise rates, and that should put drivers on the roads longer. The Council adopted a 15-cent increase for standard full ridership rates and a 10-cent increase for seniors and disabled residents. Those fares will now be five-dollars for the standard fare, and two-dollars and 85-cents for seniors and disabled.
And Strey said the higher rates is the only way the city will be able to add hours of operation to the taxi service, because it's a federally-and-state-funded operation. The taxi service in Marshfield is operated by Running Incorporated, and Justin Running told the council last night he would most likely be adding driver hours in the middle of the day, between 1-and-5 p-m, which he says has the greatest need right now.
