Marshfield City Council Approves City Budget

Monday, November 27th, 2017 -- 8:03 AM

(WDLB) -Marshfield aldermen adopted the city’s budget for next year at their meeting last week.

With two members absent, the Marshfield Common Council voted unanimously last night in favor of the 2018 city budget, increasing property taxes by just under one-percent. The vote came after a public hearing, where there were no comments. The Council’s budget totals 47-million dollars for city services next year. 13-million of that will be covered by property tax payers.

The original budget proposal called for a nearly two-percent increase in the tax rate ??" but general transportation aid from the state came in higher than expected, to the tune of nearly 130-thousand dollars. The adopted levy will increase property taxes to nine-dollars and 20-cents for every one-thousand dollars of assessed property value. That’s an increase of eight-cents.
