Neillsville City Council Approves 2018 City Budget and Tax Levy

-The Neillsville City Council approved the 2018 city budget and tax levy at their meeting on Tuesday.

The proposed 2018 amount for total expenditure and contingency came to $3,554,284, a 4.8% difference compared to 2017. The 2018 proposed revenues came to $2,052,707, a 3.2% difference compared to 2017. Proposed 2018 levy for the municipality came to $1,147,900, a 7.8% difference from 2017, with $58,527 for the tax increment district and total property taxes coming to $1,206,427, a 7.7% difference from 2017. Total revenues then come to $3,259,134 with the excess of revenue over expenditures coming to $295,150. For the general fund, cash balance as of January 1st 2018 is proposed at $2,067,859 and cash balance as of December 31st 2018 is proposed at $1,772,709.

The council also approved an adjustment for the unused levy from the previous budget year and they approved an adjustment for the debt service levy for the general obligation debt authorized after July 1st of 2005. No one was present to speak for or against the city budget during the public hearing portion of the meeting.
