-Governor Scott Walker has declared tomorrow, Thursday, November 16th, to be Rural Health Day in recognition of the dedication and innovation of health professionals who are serving our rural communities. In rural Wisconsin, there are so many beautiful places to live and about 30 percent of the state’s population has chosen the rural life. But with that life come some challenges, especially when it comes to health care. The stories of four University of Wisconsin??"Madison alumni and faculty who are small-town health professionals are featured in Thank You, 72, which salutes outstanding Badgers from every one of Wisconsin’s 72 counties. One of the doctors recognized include Neillsville’s very own Dr. Tim Meyer, who works at Memorial Medical Center. Dr. Tim Meyer arrived in Neillsville in the 1990s as part of the National Public Health Service Corps, which required a three-year commitment to practice medicine in rural America.
Meyer quickly felt at home as he practiced medicine in Clark County, and through the years, his role has deepened. Beyond seeing patients, he serves on community boards, in civic groups, and in other volunteer leadership roles. Meyer serves on the faculty of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, and in this role, he takes medical students to Clark County as part of the university’s Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine.
