-The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved the 2018 budget at their meeting last week. After hearing a presentation on the budget, the board approved the budget with proposed expenditures in the amount of $79,859,483 and proposed revenues in the amount of $57,134,301. Fund balances in the amount of $6,501,185 were applied to reduce the levy and the total indebtedness of the county as of December 31st of 2016 comes to $2,729,464. The levy came to $16,223,997 with mil rate of 8.061 or $8.06 on a $100,000 home. Most residents will actually see a tax decrease of $.15 for 2018. There was no present for the public hearing raising complaints or concerns about the budget.
A couple amendments to the budget were approved. The first was to remove $400,000 from the Community Services Fund and use it to reduce the debt of the Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center by that amount. This would then allow them to take those funds and transfer them to the Highway Department, so they could do 10 more miles of seal coating on the county roads. Another change was to take $35,000 that was going to be used to fix the east parking lot on the north end of the court house and use that for additional seal coating of county roads. The budget was unanimously approved.
