Marshfield Police Department in National Spotlight for Handling of a Suspect

Wednesday, November 8th, 2017 -- 10:19 AM

-The Marshfield Police Department found itself in that national spotlight after footage from one of the officer’s body cameras was featured on cable TV.

The video was featured on the show “Live PD.” In it, footage from Officer Alex Mitchell’s body camera was shown, highlighting his use of negotiation, restraint and a Taser to subdue a subject. The incident occurred when the officer was chasing a stolen car. The suspect, Tyler Henry, pulled over in the Dairy Queen parking lot and got out of the car. The Officer Mitchell had been informed that the suspect may have knives.

The officer asked Henry multiple times to get on the ground, but he kept refusing. Henry then reached into his car and that’s when the officer used a Taser. The department has been praised for their response to the incident.
