Average Milk Prices for September

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $18.30 per hundredweight for their milk in September.According to the latest USDA Agricultural Prices report, that was 10 cents higher than last month's price and 30 cents more than the same time a year earlier. The U.S. milk price for September was $17.80 per cwt, 50 cents lower than Wisconsin's price and 20 cents below last month's price. Fourteen of the 23 major milk producing states had a lower price when compared with August. The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.75 per pound on October 30, while barrels were $1.71 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.27 per pound.
For the week ending October 21, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.74 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.73 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.37 per pound.
