Three People Injured in Crash Near Thorp

Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 -- 12:54 PM

-Three people are injured after a three vehicle accident on STH 29 by the CTH M overpass at the south edge of the City of Thorp.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of the crash at about 12:31pm, on Wednesday November 1st, 2017. Initial investigation indicates that a flatbed truck hauling large bales of hay being driven by Albert Brick 57 years old of Chippewa Falls, was driving east on STH 29. As Albert was on the overpass of CTH M, a semi tractor-trailer being driven by Kyle R. McNeil, 28 years old of Lawler, Iowa, that was also east bound, rear-ended him.

When Albert’s truck was hit, it started to spin clockwise and struck the north guardrail. The truck then flipped onto its driver’s side and continued east, sliding on the guardrail eventually coming to rest on the highway blocking both east bound lanes. When the truck flipped, its load shifted and several bales of hay fell off the truck onto the highway below.

At that moment, a truck driven by Orville Manier 83 years old of rural Stanley, was driving north on CTH M under the overpass and was struck by large bales of hay.

Orville was taken to the Stanley Hospital for suspected serious injuries and John Brick, 55 years old of Chippewa Falls, who was riding with Albert, was air lifted to the Mayo Hospital. Albert received minor injuries and Kyle was not injured in the accident.

CTH M was blocked for several hours due to some bales of hay balancing on the guardrail. The east bound lanes of STH 29 were also blocked for several hours due to the accident.

The Thorp Area Fire and Ambulance Service responded to the scene with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Thorp Police Department, Wisconsin State Patrol, Spirit Ambulance and the Mayo Hospital Air Ambulance Service. The investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s Office and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
