Owen City Council Approves Funding for House of Friends and More

Wednesday, November 1st, 2017 -- 10:08 AM

-The Owen City Council approved some funding for the House of Friends at their meeting last week.

The council approved $3,000 in funding to the House of Friends. They also approved authorizing the sale of up to $545,851 sewer revenue bonds and approval of related $1,201,351 Financial Assistance Loan, from the Clean Water Fund Loan. They approved the sewer utility budget for 2018 at $431,000. Also, two residents were present at the meeting to address concerns they have regarding the planned rail spur. The railroad property is very close or part of their buildings sit on railroad property. CDC Tim Swiggum had talked to Heartland previously and was assured that they will work with the neighbors to prevent any problems moving forward. The council also heard the CDC’s report. Swiggum reported on the DOT TEA grant. Cost estimates for that have risen and they may need to scale back. Easements are needed for the grant as well.

The road from mill to County Rd. D is complete and looks good. The DRC held its Autumnfest and it was fun and family oriented. That event is not a big money maker but it isn’t meant to be. Christmas decorating is coming soon and the DRC is in need of volunteers. County D property sales are being completed as the buyers are able to pay. Lehnen Street issues are resolved as well and the paperwork has gone to the County.
