Fundraising Begins Next Month for Marshfield School District's New Sports Complex

Friday, October 27th, 2017 -- 9:03 AM

(USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin) -Fundraising for a new multi-purpose athletic complex and updated practice fields in the Marshfield School District will begin in November, with the opening planned for 2019.

The project would cost $10.5 million. The district hopes to raise $7 million from private funding. The additional $3.5 million will come from taxpayer money, according to Patrick Saucerman, the district's director of business services. Saucerman said in a previous interview the district's funding could come from borrowing, tapping into reserves and deferring other planned expenses.

If all goes as planned, fundraising would last 18 months and construction would start in the summer of 2019. The project would be completed in time for the 2019-2020 school year, according to Saucerman. The timeline depends on fundraising progress. If it goes better than expected, the completion date could be moved up. But the project could be delayed if the district has trouble raising money.
