(WDLB, WCCN) -A Marshfield man accused of stealing from his former employer appeared in Wood County Court on Wednesday.Adam Karau has been charged with theft in a business setting. According to the criminal complaint, Karau stole money from Lammar’s Smokehouse between July and November of last year. Lammar’s owner became suspicious of Karau when he noticed more than 70 voided transactions in a four-month period, as well as a transaction involving a fraudulent gift card. When questioned by police, Karau admitted to falsifying voided transactions and taking the money, as well as the gift card transaction.
Theft in a business setting involving amounts of 25-hundred to five-thousand dollars is a Class-one felony. If convicted, Karau is facing more than three years in prison and fines totaling 10-thousand dollars, or both. During his preliminary hearing on Wednesday, probable cause was found so his court proceedings will continue. He’ll be back in court for arraignment next month.
