Marshfield Man Receives Statewide Volunteer Award

Thursday, October 19th, 2017 -- 8:08 AM

(WDLB) -A Marshfield man has received a statewide volunteer award. Don Zais on Monday received A-A-R-P Wisconsin’s top volunteer award, the Andrus Award for community service.

Zais has volunteered with Marshfield’s Habitat For Humanity organization since he retired from Marshfield Clinic and Security Health Plan in 2000. Former colleague Ed Korlesky nominated Zais for the award, and said Don’s goal is to improve people’s dignity and purpose by allowing them to either remain living in their homes, after making needed repairs, or through his coordination - building them new, affordable homes. Zais has also volunteered with the Wood County Aging and Disability Resource Center, the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, the Marshfield Area United Way, Critical Home Repair, and his church.

The presentation for the Andrus Award for Community Service took place Monday afternoon at the Marshfield Area United Way offices downtown. As part of the award, Zais is able to choose an organization to receive a one-thousand dollar donation through A-A-R-P. He chose to split the money between the Marshfield Area Habitat for Humanity and the Marshfield Area United Way.
