One Person Dead After SUV vs. Tractor Accident Near Owen

Tuesday, October 17th, 2017 -- 12:17 PM

-One person is dead after the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in an accident on Bridge Road east of Clark Avenue in the Township of Hixon.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call of the crash at about 9:47am, on Friday October 13th. Initial investigation indicates that a tractor, being driven by 56-year-old Mark Frost, was pulling a manure spreader and traveling west on Bridge Road when it attempted to turn left onto Clark Avenue. As it was turning, an SUV, being driven by 31-year-old Jacob Person, was traveling west behind the tractor and attempted to pass it. The SUV struck the front driver’s side tractor tire and rolled several times, ejecting the passenger. The SUV came to rest on its side in the north ditch facing north east. Both Jacob and his passenger, 31-year-old Tasha Ley, were taken to the Marshfield Medical Center. Jacob had incapacitating injuries and Tasha was pronounced dead after arrival there by physicians. Mark was not injured in the accident.

Speed and driver impairment appear to be a factors in the accident. Both vehicle occupants were not wearing seatbelts. Tasha and Jacob were from the Stanley Area and Mark is from Rural Withee. Jacob was released from the Marshfield Medical Center when they failed to notify the Sheriff’s Office he was medically cleared, available to pick up or being released. Charges on Jacob of Operating a Vehicle while suspended causing death and Homicide by Intoxicated use of a Vehicle are being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. A warrant is in the process of being issued for his arrest and we encourage Jacob to turn himself into Clark County authorities.

The Owen-Withee-Curtiss Fire and Ambulance Service responded to the scene with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, Marshfield Fire Ambulance Service and Coroner Schleifer. The investigation is continuing by the Clark County Sheriff’s and Coroner’s Office. This is the 6th traffic fatality in Clark County for 2017.
