Belligerent Neillsville Resident Removed and Arrested from Neillsville City Council Meeting

Monday, October 16th, 2017 -- 1:12 PM

-It wasn’t all reports at Neillsville’s City Council meeting last week as one disgruntled resident was removed from the meeting and arrested.

Linda Montgomery was removed from the City Council meeting and arrested Tuesday night when she appeared before the council to complain about the city’s new sidewalk ordinance. Recently, the city passed an ordinance stating that if there is a usable sidewalk, residents must use the sidewalk. Montgomery uses a personal scooter and has been seen driving on roads in busy traffic, sometimes with kids on the scooter. She had already been cited because of the new ordinance on September 20th. She had also been cited on September 11th after trying to hit a student, she doesn’t like, at the high school that is dating her niece.

Even though she missed the appearances portion of the meeting, the mayor allowed her to speak for 5 minutes at the end of the meeting. Things went south quickly as she became very belligerent towards the council and mayor, swearing at them and making false accusations. At this point, Neillsville’s Police Chief, and two officers who were present at the meeting because they knew she was coming, escorted her out of city hall. As she continued to swear, make false accusations and be disorderly, she was arrested and taken to the Clark County Jail. She bonded out and charges haven’t been filed at this point, but she is expected to be charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
