-Granton residents have approved the school districts pool referendum.During a special election held on October 10th, Granton area residents approved the referendum for renovations to the pool with 254 voting yes and 105 voting no. An investigation in the fall of 2016 found deficiencies in the pool facility at the Granton Area School District. Voters approved borrowing $2 million for the public purpose of paying the cost of swimming pool, restroom and locker room renovations, related structural improvements, any necessary demolition and acquisition of related furnishing, fixtures and equipment.
The district has paid off prior loans from previous facility upgrades, making the tax impact an estimated decrease of $.19 per $1,000 property value. The district will also benefit from a 0% interest rate on a portion of the borrowing due to qualifying for a federal program. This will save taxpayers an estimated $250,000 in interest cost. The official certification of the results will take place on Monday, October 16th.
