Marshfield School Board Discusses Students Gained from Open Enrollment

Thursday, October 12th, 2017 -- 8:02 AM

(WDLB) -The Marshfield School District had a net gain of 188 students from the open enrollment process this year.

That's what the Board of Education was told last night. Member Amber Kiggens-Leifheit, who chairs the board's Finance Committee, said the district had over 300 students enroll into the district, while 137 open enrolled out. But because of a much smaller kindergarten class starting this fall, overall enrollment numbers are down by 33 compared to last year. Leifheit also noted that the school district's tax rate for the coming year should fall somewhere between nine-dollars and 30-cents per thousand and 9.35. She said it'll be a roughly 16-cent increase from last year. Leifheit said the tax rate and levy are scheduled to be certified October 25th.

Also last night, the Board of Education adopted an official school calendar for the 2018-19 school year. And because of the way the calendar falls next year, Board President Marlene Stueland said school will start after Labor Day. The winter break next year will run from Christmas Eve through New Year's Day, and Spring Break for 2019 will be the final week of March.
