Owen City Council Discusses Several Topics

-The Owen City Council began their meeting with an apology from one of their alderman.

John Mauel made an apology for an outburst at a previous meeting regarding Owen’s Police Department that had some people upset. During the public opinion portion of the meeting, it was suggested that he make that apology to the department. The council also approved to have one of their alderman and Owen’s previous mayor conduct a Police Inventory. The current mayor will check with the county and an alternate was approved as well. The council also heard the 2018 budget work plan. Also distributed were year to date 2017 budget reports. The council also approved the amended Outside Employment Policy.

The council also approved a bid for wetland delineation. Three bids were received. MSA bid $4,695, Acom bid $4,950 and Cooper bid $4,000. The wetland delineation is a requirement of the TEA Grant for the Heartland development project. The council approved to accept the bid from Cooper Engineering for $4,000. Finally, the price of railroad property for the rail spur is $78,000 for 3 acres. Heartland will be paying the first $300,000 of the project with TEA grant and TIF #4 will be paying the remainder.
