Wisconsin Farmers Receive More for their Milk in August

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Wisconsin farmers received an average price of $18.20 per hundredweight for their milk in August.According to the latest USDA Agricultural Prices report, producers got $1.10 more than they did the previous month and 20-cents more than last year's price. The U.S. milk price for August was $18.00 per cwt., 20-cents lower than Wisconsin's price, but 70 cents higher than in July. Minnesota had the largest price increase of the 23 major milk producing states, up $1.20 from the previous month.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange 40-pound block cheese price closed at $1.74 per pound on September 28, while barrels were $1.73 per pound. The CME butter price was $2.38 per pound. For the week ending September 23, the Agricultural Marketing Service U.S. weekly 40-pound block cheese price averaged $1.65 per pound, and 500 pound barrels adjusted to 38 percent moisture averaged $1.58 per pound. The U.S. butter price was $2.45 per pound.
