Thursday, September 28th, 2017 -- 8:01 AM
-DNR officials will be collecting deer heads for chronic wasting disease surveillance once again.During the 2017 archery, crossbow and gun hunting season, they’re asking hunters who harvest deer in Eau Clair, Clark or Jackson Counties to submit a sample from the deer for testing. Local sites that are collecting the samples include Ernie’s Rock Dam Saloon in Willard, The Woodland in Augusta, Phineas Borntrager in Augusta, Cenex C-Store in Fairchild and the Augusta DNR Rangers Station. You can drop lymph node samples off at Hixton Ridge Taxidermy.
The testing is free to hunters and anyone submitting the test will have results within two to three weeks. If you see a deer acting abnormally or appears to be sick you can call Clark and Jackson Counties’ DNR official Scott Roepke at 715-284-1403 or Eau Claire County’s official Bill Hogseth at 715-839-3771.
