Marshfield Property Owners May See Tax Increase Next Year

(WDLB) -Marshfield property owners might be facing a nearly two-percent tax increase next year.At last night's meeting of the Marshfield Common Council, City Administrator Steve Barg told aldermen he'd be recommending a one-point-nine percent increase in the city's tax rate in his 2018 budget proposal. Mayor Chris Meyer said the city is going into the 2018 budget process facing a one-point-six million dollar deficit, and Barg's one-point-nine percent tax hike proposal wipes out just a small portion of that shortfall--to the tune of roughly 300-thousand dollars--after significant cuts had already been made to the proposal.
Barg noted that the city's tax rates for property owners have only gone up a total of two-percent over the past decade. Barg will officially present his recommended 2018 budget to the Common Council October 10th. Aldermen will then hold a series of budget hearings to consider any changes. Those hearings are scheduled for October 16th, 24th and 30th.
