Memorial Medical Center Welcomes New Pediatrician, Final

Friday, September 22nd, 2017 -- 11:40 AM

-Memorial Medical Center has welcomed their new pediatrician, Dr. Mary Tornhel.

Dr. Tornhel’s first day was last week and she provided her final thoughts on working at MMC as their new pediatrician to end our interview.

"Again, I'm just really grateful. This has always been a part of my life. I was born here, our family members have received care here throughout the years, even up to end of life care. So, I think it's really just kind of part of the narrative of my life. So, I'm just really grateful that I'm able to provide those services. I'm also really thankful to the people who have mentored me along the way. I have an aunt and an uncle that are nurses, but no other physicians in the family. So, they've kind of provided a path to see what this looks like."

"And I want people to know too that when I went to medical school, I was sitting along side in the same class room as children, well, not children, but we basically seemed like children looking back now! We weren't! We didn't think we were children! But anyway, as they grew up, they were going to college prep schools starting in elementary school and middle/high school and went on to Ivy League colleges like Harvard and Stanford. I was sitting right along side them from Neillsville. Same thing residency. I'm just really appreciative to the community and I just want them to know that I'm back to provide some care and certainly answer any questions along the way."

Ryan Neville, MMC’s CEO, provided a statement on Dr. Tornhel working at MMC.

"Well, we're thrilled to provide that level of specialty to our community. We had it for a long time. And, I think, in talking with the community, it's one specialty that they value for our children as they develop. It's a special connection when you have a local provider taking care of the local community. I think there's a connection, a special feeling for the provider when they do that. They understand. They understand. They understand our values. They understand our beliefs and what's important."
