Memorial Medical Center Welcomes New Pediatrician, Part 1

Monday, September 18th, 2017 -- 11:29 AM

-Memorial Medical Center has welcomed their new pediatrician, Dr. Tornhel.

Dr. Tornhel’s first day was on Friday and she began our interview by explaining where she grew up, went to school and more.

"Well, I was actually born here at Memorial Medical Center. My parents are Russell and Judy Ratsch and they still live in the area. My brother and his daughters live here as well. I went through the Neillsville Public School system and graduated high school in 1994. After that, I went to the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire for two years and then transferred to the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. And I graduated from there with a Bachelor of Art and Physiology in 1998."

"From there I went to the University of Wisconsin in Madison and did medical school and graduated in 2002. And then I did a year of family medicine residency up in the Twin Cities at the University of Minnesota. Smilies was the program. And while I was there, I really kinda realized that my main interest was more focused to pediatrics. So, then I went through the matching process again and did a pediatric residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. And I finished that in 2006.

Coming up on Tuesday, Dr. Tornhel will continue with her history.
