Granton Residents to Vote on School District's Pool Referendum

Monday, September 18th, 2017 -- 8:55 AM

-Residents residing within the Granton School District will be the deciding voice on a referendum during a special election October 10th.

During an investigation in the fall of 2016, deficiencies were found in the pool facility at the Granton Area School District and, after 40 years of use, the district decided it was time to make an informed decision about the pool’s needs. After working with CESA 10 to conduct a survey of area residents, the district decided to pursue renovating the pool. On Tuesday, October 10th, during a special election, residents will vote on borrowing $2 million for the public purpose of paying the cost of swimming pool, restroom and locker room renovations, related structural improvements, any necessary demolition and acquisition of related furnishing, fixtures and equipment.

The district has paid off prior loans from previous facility upgrades, making the tax impact an estimated decrease of $.19 per $1,000 property value. The district will also benefit from a 0% interest rate on a portion of the borrowing due to qualifying for a federal program. This will save taxpayers an estimated $250,000 in interest cost. Area residents are encouraged to make their voice heard at the upcoming election. Additional information regarding the referendum can be found on the district’s website.
