(USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin) -A famed root beer and hot dog restaurant is coming to Spencer.A new A&W Restaurant will likely be open by early 2018, according to the village. The restaurant, part of a national chain of fast-food diners operated by the root beer maker, will have a better timeline of when it will open following a meeting Friday, owner Dee Wells said. The news has created a buzz in the community of fewer than 2,000 people. The restaurant is known for its frosty mugs and root beer floats, as well as fast-food fares such as hot dogs, hamburgers and fries. Spencer's fall village report to residents said A&W would open in December or January.
Wells, who is planning to open the restaurant, also owns the A&W in Withee that opened in March 2016, attached to the Mobil gas station there. Wells said the Spencer A&W will be a standalone restaurant. The news comes just three weeks after Gordy's Market abruptly closed its doors in Spencer on August 23.
