(WDLB) -The latest addition to the U-W Marshfield-Wood County campus is officially open. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held yesterday for "The Wood's" new science, technology, engineering and math, or "STEM", building.Campus Dean Keith Montgomery said the project was completed in less than a year, and it was done on time, and on budget. He also said the project included major renovations to the existing Aldo Leopold Science Building as well. Ray Cross, President of the entire University of Wisconsin System, was on hand for the ribbon-cutting. And he said lives will be changed by the advanced and modern education that will take place at the state-of-the-art facility.
The majority of frontage on the new building is made of glass, allowing for lots of natural light. And Cathy Sandeen, the Dean of the state's two-year colleges and U-W Extension, said that design was deliberate, noting that studies have shown natural light aids in the education process. The new building was a public-private partnership, with the city of Marshfield and Wood County each funding one-million dollars. The rest came from private donations. The major donor is Roehl Transport founder Everett Roehl, whom the new "STEM" building is named for.
