Clark County's Clean Sweep, Part 5

Monday, September 11th, 2017 -- 11:30 AM

-The Clark County UW-Extension Office, in partnership with several other county departments, is holding a Clean Sweep Event on September 29th.

I spoke with Melissa Kono and Shawn Ganther about the Clean Sweep. Melissa explained there is a slight cost to bring in some of the items

"Tires are, depending on the size, $3-$5. And then the larger tires like tractor tires or oversized tires are about $10-$25. TV's, anything under 12 inches is $5. TV's that are 13 inches to 32 inches are $10 and then anything larger than that is $15. Just $5 for hard drive deconstruction. Microwaves are $5. Things with coolant in them are $10. Light bulbs are $.50 to $1 depending on the size. White goods that don't have coolant in them like dishwashers or stoves or washer/dryers. There's no charge for that. Batteries can be brought in; there's no charge for that either. No charge for medication disposal."

"For agricultural waste, farmers and farm households can bring a total of 200 pounds of hazardous waste. Anything above that will be charged at $2 per pound. Households can bring a combination of up to 5 gallons of liquid or 50 pounds of solid hazardous waste. Then there's a charge of $2 per pound above that. There's no limit to batteries whether they're car batteries or rechargeable. There's no tire or appliance limit either. Businesses who have agricultural chemicals, for example, there is charge, but they can call our office for specifics on that."

Coming up on Tuesday, Melissa will talk about the need for volunteers at the event. And you must pre-register by September 15th for the Clean Sweep and you can do so by contacting the Clark County UW-Extension Office at 715-743-5121. If you don’t, you will be turned away. You can also find more information online, or by calling Extension, regarding the items accepted and the slight cost to some of the items collected. This event is only for Clark County residents and businesses and items will not be accepted beforehand. They will only be accepted on the 29th. The Clark County UW-Extension Office has the right to reject any items that do not meet the guidelines of the Clean Sweep event.
