Clark County's Clean Sweep, Part 4

Sunday, September 10th, 2017 -- 9:20 AM

-The Clark County UW-Extension Office, in partnership with several other county departments, is holding a Clean Sweep Event on September 29th.

I spoke with Melissa Kono and Shawn Ganther about the Clean Sweep. Melissa talked about the items being accepted

"We take all sorts of things. Tires, regular sized tires and tractor tires too. Appliances, TVs, computers monitors. They do hard drive deconstruction too. Microwaves. Things with refrigerant in it, which is refrigerators or air conditioners. We do collect light bulbs including fluorescent bulbs. We do get a lot of calls about paint. Any sort of oil based paint or varnishes, those should be brought in. But latex paint, actually, all people need to do is take the cover off and let it dry out and then you can dispose of that in your regular garbage. Any sort of cleaners too can be brought in. What's important is not to mix them because things can become hazardous and explosive. We do ask that chemicals be brought in in their original containers if possible with the labels in tact because it helps figuring out what's in there and what's a proper disposal for it. Otherwise, don't mix things."

Coming up on Monday, Melissa will talk about the cost to bring in some items. And you must pre-register by September 15th for the Clean Sweep and you can do so by contacting the Clark County UW-Extension Office at 715-743-5121. If you don’t, you will be turned away. You can also find more information online, or by calling Extension, regarding the items accepted and the slight cost to some of the items collected. This event is only for Clark County residents and businesses and items will not be accepted beforehand. They will only be accepted on the 29th. The Clark County UW-Extension Office has the right to reject any items that do not meet the guidelines of the Clean Sweep event.
