Construction Begins on Marshfield's Downtown Plaza

(WDLB) -Construction is officially underway on a public plaza in Marshfield's downtown. The Marshfield Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a ground-breaking ceremony Friday morning for the new Wenzel Family Plaza, which Boson Construction will build on the former Marshfield News-Herald site in the 200 block just west of main street. Mayor Chris Meyer says the new plaza will be a great addition to the city's downtown. The Plaza will be built with a combination of city funds and private contributions, including a sizable contribution from the Wenzel family, which gets naming rights.
The Mayor said Marshfield is trying to create a downtown gathering space for people and for special events--while at the same time trying to create pedestrian traffic which might shop in the downtown stores. And because the Wenzel Plaza construction is now underway, the two United States Postal Service boxes displaced by the construction have been relocated to the north and south front corners of the Marshfield Post Office.
