Clark County's Clean Sweep, Part 1

Thursday, September 7th, 2017 -- 11:25 AM

-The Clark County UW-Extension Office, in partnership with several other county departments, is holding a Clean Sweep Event on September 29th.

I spoke with Melissa Kono and Shawn Ganther about the Clean Sweep. Melissa explained when and where the clean sweep is.

"It is Friday, September 29th. We are going to start out in Owen at the County Shop there. And we'll be collecting materials there from 8:30am-10:30am. And then we move down to Neillsville for the afternoon. We'll be at the fairgrounds from 2pm-5pm. We have to have it on that day. Ideally we'd have it on a Saturday; however, we are required, because we have a state grant from DATCP, we are required to use Violia as the vendor who will come and collect the hazardous waste. And that's the day that they're available to be in our area. So, normally we would try and do it on a weekend to make it easy for people, but our hands are kinda tied with that."

Coming up on Friday, Melissa will explain how this event is being funded. And you must pre-register by September 15th, for the Clean Sweep and you can do so by contacting the Clark County UW-Extension Office at 715-743-5121. If you don’t, you will be turned away. You can also find more information online or by calling Extension regarding the items accepted and the slight cost to some of the items collected. This event is only for Clark County residents and businesses and items will not be accepted beforehand. They will only be accepted on the 29th. The Clark County UW-Extension Office has the right to reject any items that do not meet the guidelines of the Clean Sweep event.
