Gordy's in Neillsville on the Chopping Block
Thursday, August 31st, 2017 -- 11:12 AM
-The City of Neillsville may be down a grocery store in less than two months.According to information released by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, more than 1,000 employees at 25 Gordy’s locations may be out of a job and stores closed, including here in Neillsville, if the company can’t find a suitable buyer in a short amount of time. The company announced it’s the subject of a receivership to find a buyer, which means that Gordy’s and its assets are held by a third party as the company is unable to meet financial obligations. If a buyer isn’t found all 25 remaining stores will be closed with employees terminated and benefits eliminated 60 days from this past Tuesday.
Gordy’s has had a rash of store closings over the past month including locations in Hayward, Tomah, Chippewa Falls and Eau Claire on August 16th. Three more stores were closed on August 23rd, which included the stores in Stanley and Spencer. Neillsville’s store may soon find itself on the chopping block as well.
