Red Cross Blood Drive in Pittsville Today
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2017 -- 10:12 AM
-Thousands of people responded to the emergency call for blood and platelet donations issued by the American Red Cross in early July, but there continues to be a critical summer blood shortage.Eligible donors of all types are urgently needed. After issuing the emergency call, the Red Cross experienced a 30 percent increase in blood donation appointments. About half of the appointments were scheduled by donors using the free Blood Donor App or at redcrossblood.org. Despite this improvement, blood products are still being distributed to hospitals as fast as donations are coming in, so more donations are needed to meet patient needs and replenish the blood supply.
There are several upcoming opportunities to donate blood including today in Pittsville from 1pm-6pm in the Lions Club Building, Granton on August 24th from 12pm-5pm at the high school, Neillsville on August 24th from 12pm-5pm at OEM Fabricators and in Greenwood on August 25th from 12:30pm-5:30pm in the former Clark Electric Building.
