State Lawmakers Renew Push on Wolves

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Following this week's ruling by a federal appeals court to keep the gray wolf on the Endangered Species List, two state lawmakers are renewing their push for Congress to take action on delisting the animals.State Senator Tom Tiffany of Hazelhurst and Rep. Adam Jarchow from Balsam Lake called on leaders in Washington to vote and approve pending legislation that would ultimately give states the right to control their own wolf populations. The two Republican legislators say the time has come for Congress to act on the legislation offered by Wisconsin Congressman Sean Duffy and Senators Ron Johnson and Tammy Baldwin to delist the gray wolf.
Tiffany and Jarchow organized the Great Lakes Wolf Summit in Wisconsin last fall as a way to educate government officials and the public about the problems local farmers are facing as a result of the increased wolf numbers. They say the population of wolves in Wisconsin alone has ballooned to over 900 animals.
