Clark County Extension Office at the Clark County Fair, Part 2

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017 -- 11:33 AM

-The Clark County Fair begins next week and the Clark County UW-Extension Office is hard at work preparing for it.

I spoke with Melissa Kono, CNRED Agent, and Chris Holler, 4-H Advisor, and they talked about some of the events they’re doing at the fair. Chris continued the interview by talking about the many, many events happening with the 4-H at the Clark County Fair.

Chris: "But what they've been preparing for is, like all our dairy folks, they've been working with their cattle this whole time. The beef folks, even if they have to pull the beef behind the tractor for the first few times out of the gate, they've been working with that. And it's best, at least with the beef ones, to work on them when they're really little, so they're okay with being lead on a halter. So, to the goats, to the rabbits, to...I'm going to miss a group...pigs, they've been working with those animals. That seems to be a huge part, the animals, but we also have the projects that come in."

"And this year that's a change. Possibly a stressful change, but it is a change. All the projects will come in on Wednesday. The original thought process for that, and still is, is to try and move some of the judging and projects away from when the animals are being judged. And people can say, 'well, now you've just moved it to the day when all the animals are coming in.' Yes, but parents can check in the animals. And they have been for years. So, the kids can focus on their projects and judging."

"So, all though Wednesday will be crazy, without a doubt...crazy; I'm hoping Thursday and Friday will be more chill, so people aren't trying to get projects to multiple locations. I'm hoping that after the craziness of Wednesday, when people are probably going to want to kill me, people will be like 'okay, you're not as crazy as we all thought."

Coming up on Thursday, we’ll hear more about what’s happening at the Clark County Fair with the UW-Extension Office.
