Replacement FoodShare Benefits Available for Those Affected by Severe Weather

Friday, July 28th, 2017 -- 8:04 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -Replacement FoodShare benefits are available for those who lost food due to the severe weather in southeastern Wisconsin on July 11-12.

Governor Scott Walker declared a State of Emergency for three Wisconsin counties including Kenosha, Racine, and Walworth after severe storms caused damages to these communities. State officials say FoodShare members who lost food due to the severe weather may request replacement benefits for food purchased with July benefits. Due to damages from the storms, some people may have been unable to reach county offices or access their homes; therefore, the Department of Health Services requested a waiver of the 10-day deadline to report lost benefits.

The federal Food and Nutrition Service approved the waiver request to allow households sufficient time to report their loss of food in the above counties. FoodShare members in the affected counties have until August 11 to report lost benefits as a result of the storms, and request a replacement for the amount of the loss, not to exceed the monthly allotment for the household. FoodShare members affected by severe weather in southeastern Wisconsin who wish to request replacement benefits should fill out the necessary paperwork and submit it to their local income maintenance agency.
