Republican State Lawmaker Trying Rebuild Deteriorated West Shore Pipeline

Monday, July 10th, 2017 -- 9:05 AM

(Wisconsin Ag Connection) -A Republican state lawmaker from Appleton is trying to put together a group of stakeholders in an attempt to rebuild the deteriorated West Shore Pipeline, which formerly ran fuel products between Milwaukee and Green Bay until early last year.

State Sen. Roger Roth says fixing the pipeline is necessary in order to bring long-term economic development to the region. He said no plans are yet in place, but he hopes that assembling a consortium of key players could lead to possible solutions in the future.

The line was owned by the Illinois-based West Shore Pipeline Company. They shut it down in March of 2016 because certain sections of the pipeline were no longer safe to operate. Last year, Gov. Scott Walker issued several executive orders to lift regulations on the trucking industry to make it easier to transport fuel and prevent gasoline shortages.
