Clark County UW-Extension and Revolution Plastics Providing Ag Plastic Recycling Dumpsters to Clark County Farmers, Part 4

Thursday, June 29th, 2017 -- 11:40 AM

-The Clark County UW-Extension Office and Revolution Plastics are excited to bring an ag plastics recycling event to Clark County.

Revolution Plastics will be distributing dumpsters in Clark County on Tuesday, July 18th for on-farm agricultural plastics recycling. I spoke with Clark County’s CNRED Agent Melissa Kono, who was instrumental in bringing this to the county, and she explained the program in more detail.

"They can not come that day (the 18th) and expect to get a dumpster. We will only be providing dumpsters to those who preregister. There aren't a lot of requirements, but there does have to be a minimal amount of plastics being generated on the farm. So, smaller operations, like 30 or 40 cows, probably won't qualify. Otherwise, there's not a lot of exclusions. And farms that maybe have smaller ag plastics use could share a dumpster with another farm if they'd like. Again, they have to preregister and we are only anticipating that we will have one, maybe two events this summer, but after that their won't be anymore dumpsters available. So this isn't something that we'll be able to offer many times in the future. It's kind of a one and done deal."

"The dumpster is free. And the collection is free to farmers. So, Revolution Plastics will come and empty the dumpster. It is available to Clark County residents and surrounding areas. So, unlike a traditional garbage collection service where you have to pay a monthly fee, or even sometimes a fee per dumpster load, this is free to the farmer. They do take this plastic to be processed and made into new things."

Coming up on Friday, we’ll hear more about the program.
