Neillsville City Council Discusses Fire Inspections

-The Neillsville City Council discussed fire inspections at their meeting on Tuesday.A motion was made, and approved, to have the Fire Department do a quarterly report on fire inspections in the city. The council wanted to have this so they could have more information about properties in the city that may not be up to code sooner rather than hearing it just during their annual meeting. They feel the sooner they get the information, the better chance they have to deal with the problem. It was stated that the report, which will be given semi-annually, can be about positive things the department is doing as opposed to just negative things that they’re dealing with.
The council also discussed the Merchant Hotel property. The hotel has had issues in regards to fire inspections. Some upgrades have been completed by the owner, but there are still many issues. One of the worse areas is the basement, which is filled with items, most of them combustible. The city will be inspecting the hotel every two to three weeks and if progress on the facility stops, they will be cited.
