The Wisconsin Supreme Court Votes To Keep Deliberations Behind Closed Doors

Saturday, June 24th, 2017 -- 6:52 AM

The Wisconsin Supreme Court has voted to continue keeping its deliberations behind closed doors.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the vote this week came amid hostility that has been marking the court in recent years. The state Supreme Court has always conducted its arguments on cases in public and its deliberations about them behind closed doors.

The court voted five years ago to hold public deliberations about proposed changes to the court's formal rules.

The court majority has now voted to stop holding such discussions in public. This means when the court next takes up its ethics policies, it will do so privately. Justice Michael Gableman, who voted in favor of the change, says it was time to end the experiment of holding public meetings. (AP)
