Clark County UW-Extension Office and Revolution Plastics Offering Free Ag Plastics Recycling

Wednesday, June 21st, 2017 -- 9:35 AM

-Revolution Plastics will be distributing dumpsters in Clark County on Tuesday, July 18th for on-farm agricultural plastics recycling. Those who are interested in a dumpster are asked to register to pick one up on that day. The dumpsters are free and the company provides free on-farm, regular collection service for the plastic. This service is available for Clark County residents and the surrounding areas.

Registration is required in order to pick up a dumpster on July 18th. Due to limited numbers of dumpsters being available and collection schedules, it is anticipated that this opportunity will only be offered Summer 2017 and is limited. Those interested in a dumpster need to complete the brief registration at www.revolutionplatics.com or by calling 1-844-490-7873 in order to receive a dumpster on July 18th. If you require assistance registering, please contact the Clark County Extension office at 715-743-5121.

Agricultural Plastics that can be placed in the dumpster include Sileage Plastics such as used bale wrap, ag/grain bags, most bunker covers and oxygen barrier film and Ag Plastics such as irrigation tape and tubing, greenhouse, hoophouse, fumigation and other cover films.

Revolution Plastics collects ag and sileage plastic from farms and dairies and recycles it at its recycling facilities based in the U.S. The plastic is recycled into other agricultural plastics such as irrigation tubes and the company also makes EPA-approved trash bags for commercial use in hospitals and universities. All of the plastic collected is processed in the U.S. and is not sent to other countries for processing.

Traditionally it is has been challenging to recycle agricultural plastics because of the lower density plastic used and its tendency to get dirty on the farm. Farmers would have to pay for the plastic to be disposed of in a regular dumpster or would resort to burning it, which is illegal in Wisconsin and harmful to the environment. Recycling agricultural plastics gives farmers an environmentally-friendly option at no cost.
