Owen-Withee School Board Has First Reading of Wellness Policy

-The Owen-Withee School Board had the first reading of their updated Wellness Policy at their meeting last week.The district has been required to update its Wellness Policy to include a Wellness Committee, updating some nutrition education goals, including the “Smarts Snacks” and discussion of how the community will be made aware of the policy. Also, the board unanimously approved membership in the WIAA for the 2017-18 school year for the middle and high school. Membership allows them to participate in the WIAA tournament in the sports they offer with no membership dues again this year.
The board also approved creating Fund 46 and the capital projects list. This fund, which cannot be touched for 5 years from the date of creation, allows the district to save money over fiscal years without losing state aid. After five years the money can be spent on items on the Capital Projects list. The fund can be started with as little as $500 and added to throughout the 5 year period. Money in the fund must be spent within 10 years.
