Marshfield School District to Have One Year Affiliate Membership with Rural Virtual Academy

(WDLB) -The Marshfield School District will have a one-year affiliate membership with the Rural Virtual Academy, in an attempt to keep students from opting out of the district. The Marshfield Board of Education's vote was unanimous last night, in favor of the one-year partnership. Board member Frances Bohon said the district has looked at what the district could offer in the way of an on-line option. But she said the R-V-A affiliation would better meet the needs of students who are choosing the on-line academy--and they could still be counted as Marshfield students for purposes of enrollment.
Superintendent Dee Wells said the Rural Virtual Academy membership also makes sense for Marshfield students, because the city is generally seen as the central meeting point for surrounding members. And from a financial standpoint, Wells said Marshfield would maintain state aid by keeping those students in the district. Also last night, the Board of Education approved an agreement with the Marshfield Teachers' Association regarding a wage increase for the coming school year. Board President Marlene Stueland said the M-T-A has ratified the agreement with the membership in the bargaining unit.
