New Aquatic Center Project Continues to Move Forward

(WDLB) -Marshfield aldermen will find out what impact a proposed aquatic center would have on the expansion plans of Marshfield Utilities. With Alderman Mike Feirer absent, the Common Council voted 8-to-1 Tuesday night to present its recent pool study committee findings to members of the Utility Commission, and get their feedback within 60 days. The Pool Study Committee told the Council last month that if the city decides to build a new aquatic center, it should go on the site of the current municipal swimming pool. Mayor Chris Meyer said that presents a problem, because the Utility has identified that location as a possible home for its future expansion plans.
Alderman Tom Witzel wants the pool to stay on the south side, because it's one of the few things left driving the economy on that side of town. If the city does decide to build a new aquatic center, Alderman Ed Wagner says it needs to go where the city can get the biggest bang for its buck economically, whether it's on the south side or not. The Pool Study Committee looked at 20 sites around the city, and eventually narrowed that list down to eight, finally settling on the site which is the current home to Hefko Pool, which is 80 years old, and which has reached the end of its useful life.
