(WDLB) -The City of Marshfield is once again being asked to be a financial player in the construction of a permanent pet shelter facility.Members of the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter, or MAPS, spoke to the Common Council last night about a possible financial contribution. The fundraising effort is currently being spearheaded by Bill Heiting. He told the Council last night that a 190-thousand dollar contribution from the city would put the pet shelter very close to its current goals, and it would help them secure a matching donation from the J.P. Adler Family Fund for naming rights, totaling 350-thousand dollars.
MAPS is still sitting on 150-thousand dollars from an initial fundraising campaign, plus a possible 190-thousand dollar contribution from the city--in addition to the Adler matching grant, and a 60-thousand dollar investment by the city in new heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment at the pet shelter's current temporary location inside the former terminal building at the Marshfield Municipal Airport. MAPS first approached the city three years ago about donating to the pet shelter project. Dan Helwig of Design Unlimited has drawn up plans for a 77-hundred square-foot facility on a piece of property near Figi's which the city has already donated. The planned facility would house 20 dogs and 40 cats. The current MAPS goal is to construct the facility in 2019.
