Spencer Woman Accused of Adding Substances to Her Boss' Coffee Appears in Court

-A Spencer woman accused of adding several substances to her boss' coffee in order to make him ill so he’d forget about a loan he gave her appeared in court on Tuesday.The substances included eye drop solution, water pills, caffeine pills and anti-anxiety medication. The victim, the woman’s boss, noticed something was wrong when he had high spike in his blood sugar and saw a slimy substance at the bottom of his cup. The man put a motion censing camera in his office and caught 56-year-old Karen Zenner in the act.
Zenner admitted to authorities that she tried to make her boss ill so he’d forget about the $2,000 loan he had given her. She’s been charged with placing foreign objects in edibles. Probable cause was found during her preliminary hearing on Tuesday, so her court proceedings will continue. She also entered a not guilty plea to the charge against her. She’s free on a $500 signature bond and if convicted and sentenced to the maximum amount, she could face 3.5 years in prison. She’ll be back in court next month.
